How will artists be selected?

The world by regions:

The curatorial system has been designed in a regional way to ensure we localise most artists that were banned. We have divided the world in regions that concentrate all the banned countries: Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Eurasia, each of which have a dedicated Ambassador who will recopilate the information of such banned artists. These lists of banned artists and their works by region will be given to creator and curator Edua Sykes.

Step 1

Ambassadors will be responsible for specific regions of the world.

Step 2

Ambassadors will select fellow artists by hand and create a list of banned artists.

Step 3

Lists of selected artists are passed on to curator Edua Sykes.

Step 4

Co-curators will create a visual narrative for the exhibition with the selected artists' works in a mix of physical and digital mediums.

Additional step

Unfortunately, even though we have Ambassadors on each region,  we might miss other artists who were banned, which is why from November 29th until December 15th, we will be opening an application form, so that all affected artists have the chance to submit their artworks for Unbanned. Following their application, this will be reviewed by Worldwide Ambassador, Parin Heidari, who will pass the final list to co-curators, who will make a final selection for the exhibition.

We understand the current Ukraine-Russia situation and sympathize with the Ukrainian people. However, we believe that citizens of a country don't necessarily represent their governments. Russian artists can apply to be considered. If any Russian artist ends up being selected, this will have been carefully and thoroughly overseen. We believe in an open, inclusive Web3 community, but we also believe in the basic values of respect and benevolence. Therefore, any shows of racism, LGBTphobia, antisemitism, misogyny, verbal or written attacks towards any nationality will not be tolerated. This applies to all countries.
